Artful Walls
A sideproject app, which offers hi-res scans of paintings as wallpapers
October 2024 + May 2026 - Ongoing
What is it?
A curated wallpaper app offering high-resolution public-domain paintings for mobile, desktop, and 4K screens. I designed the full UI and design system from scratch in Figma, starting with a prototype in late 2024. The dataset covers 96 works hand-picked from four museum collections: Art Institute of Chicago, the Met, Cleveland Museum of Art, and Wikimedia Commons.
The app is live at artfulwalls.app, built with Claude Code handling the development side. It supports browsing, search, filtering by device type, favorites synced via Supabase, and full-resolution downloads. It also ships as a native macOS app via a Swift wrapper. The original Figma prototype sat untouched for months until AI coding tools made it realistic to actually build, and I wanted to find out firsthand whether that was true.
